Gentlemen, once again it has come to my attention – that my favorite movie theater chain is no longer offering free popcorn refills!

Snoopy is quite a dog, but “Elijah was a prophet … One day he went to King Ahab and said, “I’m a servant of the living Lord, the God of Israel. And I swear in his name that it won’t rain until I say so.” 1st Kings:17

So we call them administrative assistants nowadays and their tasks are now different. No longer is a “secretary” a glorified typist: word processing has done away with that. They still do order the coffee and doughnuts for the meetings (somebody has to).

I am within earshot of the administrative assistant who supports the mucky-mucks in the corner offices (even executives have to “share” nowadays). How she keeps these people’s business lives in order is interesting: of course she makes travel arrangements (do you like dealing with the airlines) and she irons out disputes with credit card charges and she fights with the IT help desk to get their computers fixed.

I’m glad I have my job, I would not want to do hers.

The Woodstock as Snoopy’s secretary always has me wondering – did Schulz know shorthand or would he have someone else, presumably his own secretary/assistant, transcribe the words and then he’d write them into the strips?

What I always thought was fun, was that this strip was the inspiration for one of the comic books released in the early/mid 70’s titled “Stop Snowing on my Secretary” which included the panel where Snoopy is yelling that as the book’s cover.
