Check out a factory farm someday. There’s nothing that’s done to dogs that isn’t done a thousandfold to pigs, cattle, goats, etc. Only difference is, pigs and goats aren’t as cute, so nobody cares about them. Same old song.
Native Americans recognized the ‘necessity’ of eating meat, they were judicious in their slaughter, however, and honored the spirit of the animal after the kill. They were truly horrified by the white man’s wholesale slaughter of the American Bison, not recognizing it as a particularly ruthless way of suppressing the indigenous population while, at the same time, providing an article of minor value to their own population.
Eight or nine years ago my wife and I saw a PETA video of a turkey farm. Not going into details, but neither of us has eaten meat since then. We do eat eggs…but from a local farm where the hens are free range. Not a vegan, but better than burgers and chicken wings.
And please…skip the soy boy comments. I’m almost 70, a former marine and hard core right-winger. I just feel a little better avoiding giving money to factory farms.

Yeah, I think we hoomans should be thankful that other species don’t feel empathy for one another. Or communicate.

It’s not the eating that gets me – it’s the unnecessary cruelty.

In China, they’ll eat just about anything. The whole SARS epidemic began from people eating civets.

I did not climb to the top of the food chain to eat carrots, therefore I take my part in the food chain very seriously.
