That’s what she gets having only one couch in the house and just one recliner chair for John who will want to use it after dinner or after work or whenever. If she has flu, she needs to change out of her clothes and get into her own bed. Lying on the couch with the flu means she will leave her germs all over it and pass her flu to the rest of the family. Personally, I love sleeping on the couch because I like having back support which helps me sleep better but I knew if I keep sleeping there, the sofa would get ruined, the cushions messed up so I forced myself to move back to my bed. Eventually, husband and I bought an adjustable twin bed king size frame topped with memory foam mattresses which helps solve my aching bones problems. Spring coils are really bad on the body of which sofas don’t have.

I’ve had the flu a few times and each time I much prefer my own bed. But then again, I’m one of those flu sufferers who can’t seem to stay conscious through it so I have no need for a tv or any entertainment. I wake up just long enough to drink water, maybe slurp down a bowl of soup, and go potty. Showers, tv, reading, radio, interacting with anyone in the living world is impossible for me. I envy those who can suffer the flu and stay conscious enough to at least enjoy watching tv all day; to me that’s just a random weekend!

Sympathy is inversely proportional to inconvenience.

When I was a kid whenever I got sick my mother would let me lie on the couch in the living room and for a long time I never gave it much thought, but then realized that was where the TV set was so I could watch TV during the day. This was long before households had multiple TV’s in the house. As I got older I realized when I got sick I could just stay in the bedroom because we had a set in the bedroom as well. Funny how old habits are carried on well into adulthood, plus most couches are pretty comfortable to lounge in all day when not feeling good.

She’s just spreading germs out here on the sofa. In her bedroom, on her bed, the sheets can at least be changed and disinfected. Maybe she feels she needs to be out in the house to be available for her family, or her favorite soaps are on. You pick.

At least by staying on the couch, she can keep a bleary eye on things and not stagger downstairs to find all hell has broken loose.

I knew Elle was getting sick. For the past couple of panels. As for this, so much for mom getting a bit of sympathy

When I was a child and was sick, I was allowed to be on the couch to watch TV. But my favorite thing was to stay in my room in my bed, but be allowed to bring the parakeet cage into my room to watch and listen to the bird(s). That bit of company and cheerful sound really helped my mood!
