At one time, we had a beautiful, loving, sweet dog of very little brain, whose breath scared buzzards away from rotting carcasses. Our cousin called it “Lazer Breath”. The moniker stuck.
Shades of “Son of Stimpy” of Ren and Stimpy fame! I am reminded of “Stinky”, the come-to-life flatulent offspring of Stimpy, who was lost to the aether. A happy and sappy Lassie style ending that reunited Stinky with his daddy ensued and a good time was had by all.

Poor Poncho. Apparently, his greatest positive attribute is the baddest stink in town. One dogs terrible is another dogs great.

In the last panel, it looks like Poncho is trying to work out whether he is proud or ashamed. I am pretty sure pride will win.
