This is even less funnier than the more recent cold openings for Saturday Night Live. I really miss the original “Not Ready For Prime Time Players” since they left in 1980. The show’s been in a 38-year coma and it doesn’t even know it.
FYI. A cold open (also called a teaser, or just a cold,[citation needed] especially in production circles)1 is a narrative tactic used in television and/or films. It is the technique of jumping directly into a story at the beginning of the show before the title sequence or opening credits are shown. In television, this is often done on the theory that involving the audience in the plot as soon as possible will reduce the likelihood of their switching from a show during the opening commercial.2 A cold open may also be used to recap events in previous episodes or storylines that will be revisited during the current episode.
The cold open technique is sometimes used in movies. There, “cold opening” still refers to the opening moments or scenes, but not necessarily to the full duration before the title card, as the title card might appear well after the cold open has been achieved.
According to the red progress bar at the bottom of the screen, after the cold opening, title sequence and theme music, there wasn’t much time left for the actual show.

To avoid chronological confusion, let’s just assume the episode was recorded weeks ago and is just now being uploaded to MeTub.

I don’t know what I want to see more, Dakota’s full intro in a format I can hear or Dakota actually turned in to an aquatic mythical creature?

I’m thinking Dakota has a theme much like “It’s Garry Shandling’s Show”

Blart indeed. Dakota does look cute as a mermaid, though.

I’m guessing that it’s not a recycle of the Bob Newhart theme,… unless there’s a dance remix of that.
