Several years ago, I tried do purchase a nice dress to wear at a friend’s wedding. Since I was severely overweight back then, I tried a special store. – I left with the words “To wear a potato-sack, I don’t have to spend that amount of money.”
My mother assembled an acceptable outfit for me from the clothes we already had at home.
I’ve got the solution for you my dear Amanda. Go find one of your husband’s sweatshirts and put it on. And when it gets too hot roll up the sleeves just above your elbow. (I probably didn’t solve the issue but my head is still spinning after reading the comic several times)
The only issue I have with finding clothes is finding pants because I’m a 32 waist but a 40 Length. I have absolutely no clue what that translates to in women’s sizes.
About larger sizes being abnormal? NO! You want proof? Try finding your size at a thrift store. Plus sizes are more rare (except in t shirts) because there are more of us than there are decent clothes available to us, so we hang on to them. Manufacturers prefer making clothes for and marketing them to smaller sizes, because they are more “photogenic”.
I sell clothes on eBay, used, vintage, collectible, rare – call them what you will. I try to limit my inventory to larger sizes, but they are hard to find for cheap. THIS IS NOT FAIR!! I mean, I live in tees and capris most of the year, but some people actually care about wearing nice clothes.
… and I’m preaching to the choir again, aren’t I? The best advice I’ve got is thrift stores or eBay.
I feel your pain, Amanda! I too, battle the bulge, but in addition I am 6’1”, with simian arms and shoulders like a linebacker! Every woman’s coat, shirt, or top is a 3/4 sleeve on me!

Those high-end boutiques in the strip malls would sell them, at about three times what you’d want to pay for them.
