Everyone has priorities for their pocketbook. Maybe as long as they can keep their equipment functional, they prefer to spend their money on a nice warm condo to keep their spouses happy!
Hey, before that gear got ratty, they scored a goal in high school while wearing it. They might get another in whatever beer league they are playing in.
That was a life lesson I learned young. When asked why friends of mine went on fun vacations all over the world, knowing that our parents mostly all made about the same amount of money, (we were a military family) my mom explained that it’s not how much you earn rather, what you choose to do with it. Our family would take a lot of staycations (visiting places near where we lived) a few times a year rather than save the money and do one big vacation far away from where we lived (like flying from the UK to Disney World).
