I read an article in the Seattle Times the other day about outfits that recycle Christmas lights. It’s a tough job but they get recycled for the copper. It was groups like the Boy Scouts that collected them. Gathered then sent to China for recycling.
I just hold the one end in my right hand and wrap it around my bent elbow. perfect circle that fits in the light box every single year now for decades.

Most people today just toss the lights if they become too tangled.

They sell cord organizers that you wind extension cords on. I use them for the lights.

Niche market limited to once a year, probably not a viable way to provide year around support.
