Many birds fly south for the Winter, but robins head out of town to farms with livestock. They can find plenty of food and warmth there. Canada geese fly only as far as they need to, to find food. As our Winters become milder, they often stay put in one area all year. When the harvest is done, there is enough grain left in the field to feed a lot of geese.
