I remember my dad invested in a Cadillac version of rabbit ears which had a base with a dial on it. If one wanted toget better reception, instead of turning the ears this way or that way or adjust the height of one or both ears, all you had to do was dial to another number onthe dial…..
of course it didn’t work, and you wound up turning the ears this way or that way and adjusting the height of one or both ears , anyway
My family had a remote for our TV… me. But it wasn’t a hard job, we only had something like 6 or 7 channels (living near Chicago). That number dropped to 2 or 3 when we moved to western Colorado. And they quit broadcasting by 11pm or midnight and didn’t come back on until 6 or 7 in the morning, so everyone could get a good nights rest… except for that poor Indian chief in the test pattern 8^)
I don’t remember our old black & white taking much longer, if any, to turn on than waiting for my HDTV to boot up. We still have one tube TV and It’s actually a few seconds faster.
