When Seattle first got a pro soccer team in 1974, our goalie was a guy from Hartlepool FC named Barry Watling…a very good one, first-team All-NASL ’keeper who always put a stuffed animal in the goal net behind him. Ridley Scott and Meat Loaf are fans and, yes, the team nickname IS the Monkey Hangers (also known as the ’Pools).
