They should explain why she can’t have a real pony. Someday when she’s grown if she still wants a pony she can perhaps move to a place where she can have one.
Adam would have to become a #1 best seller author in order to afford to buy and take care of 10 ponies. So there’s no harm in putting it down in writing.
They might see if they can afford to let her have riding lessons at a stable that insists upon the riders learning how to take care of their mounts. Clean stalls, grooming, caring for tack. We did that for my daughter and her enthusiasm for a horse kind of melted away. :o)
My husband promised our grand daughter a pony when she was around 2 and kept bringing it up every time he had the chance. I had to keep shushing him until he finally stopped.
My cousin wanted a pony for years. My aunt arranged for her to spend time at a stable, mucking out the stalls, and generally taking care of the ponies for a whole week one summer and only getting an hour to ride at the end of the week. She never asked for a pony after that.

Keep it up and Krampus will ride you like a pony, Katie. He loves to torture children like you. Saved just barely this year. He wants you next year.

My parents couldn’t afford a pony when I was a girl so I took lessons when I turned 18 and eventually saved up and bought my own horses.
