The first two “numbers” she uses in panel 1 make an appearance much later in the strip when Lucy uses them as examples of numbers in math… I don’t recall the year, or context, but I know I’ve “seen” them before… :-P
And, editing what I posted: I re-read it again, and notice: “54-40”… he should ask if she intended to “fight” otherwise (an old, old historical reference only you might get if you remember your school history classes… )
