What’s wrong with ol’ Tchai ? It proves that Schroeder is an eclectic pianist .

Roll over Beethoven and tell Tchaikovsky the news.

How interesting that CB could tell the difference between the two just by hearing a brief sample…

In a later strip, Lucy asked Schroeder about all the other composers, to which he replied, “They were great, too.”

I’m so relieved to hear that he tried more than one composer. You shouldn’t restrict yourself, especially when you’re so young.

I’d like to see him cut loose with some Jerry Lee and Fats Domino.

‘a confirmed Beethoven man’…you just don’t hear that expression much anymore.

Yo-Yo Ma has great admiration for the great Pablo Casals, and says: “He thought of himself as a human being first, a musician second and, only third, a cellist.” Don’t pay any attention to Charlie Brown Schroeder, you’re doing just fine.

I am impressed that preschool children are able to identify the difference between Beethoven and Tschaikowsky.

Charlie must have a better ear than I do. I doubt if I could tell the difference.

So what? Where the classical composers are concerned, I prefer Beethoven too (listening, I’d ruin it if I tried playing), but I enjoy a little Tchaikovsky (1812 Overture and some pieces from The Nutcracker, largely Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy), Motzart (really just Eine kleine Nachtmusik) , Chopin (well, Chopin’s Piano Sonata #2 in B flat minor, Third Movement Marche funèbre), Wagner (Ride of the Valkiryes), and Vavaldi (a little bit from the Four Seasons, pretty much the first movement from Concerto #1 in E major, La primavera) as well. More modern composers, I go for John Williams.
