How many of us were warned as kids never to sit that close to the TV, either?

Interesting, considering that once the kids got older they didn’t sit much further away.

We were told it was dangerous to sit too close to a COLOR TV. It would “ruin your eyes”. This was even picked up by MAD Magazine as the basis for a song parody, but the veracity of the claim wasn’t challenged. Turns out it’s an old wives’ tale.

All I ever saw up that close were the multi-colored pixels that made up the TV screen. And marveled that, from a little distance, it all came together as a photo.

I remember Edward Everett Horton on Fractured Fairy Tales about William Tell that a form of eyestrain was named for him -Tell-avision!

What about sitting too close to a computer monitor? Should we all be sitting at least 6 feet away from them? According to the formula I posted above, I should be sitting about 33-55 inches (2.75-4.6 feet / 0.8-1..4 metres) away from my 22" monitor. In reality, I’m sitting about 20" (1.6 feet) / 55 cm away from my monitor. I guess I have to get either a wireless keyboard and mouse and move farther back, or get a smaller monitor.

He was better off. But it is interesting to see the difference between how early Lucy treats Linus and how Classic Lucy treats him.

I actually remember being struck by Linus’ eyes when I first saw this strip about 50 years ago.
