Lucy’s sitting in a Baby Butler. My parents bought one when I was born (1950), and it was used for 5 kids and 19 grandkids. It was made to last.

At this point, the milk gets thrown.

Dialog from an adult? Has this happened before?

Interesting that an adult is actually TALKING. Has that happened before or since?

I wanna get down! Okay, Lucy, I’ll go throw on the Brothers Johnson…

An adult actually talked in a Peanuts comic strip!

The changes in Lucy’s expressions are priceless.

This the first and only Peanuts strip I’ve ever seen that an “adult” speaks.

An intelligible adult. This will not last.

There are a few strips like this in the early years. Schulz abandoned this quickly.

All Lucy hears is “Waah wah-wah wah-wah wah wah.”

Mother: may I please have a bottle of Hershey’s syrup to help with the milk?

Lucy is lucky, my mother’s response would have been “People in Hell want ice water.” You never, ever said the words “I want” to my mother. Never.

Isn’t that always the way?
