That was one of the stories in the old Henry Huggins stories by Beverly Cleary – Henry’s dog retrieved all of the newspapers he delivered, so he had to go re-do the route all over… ;-)
The most ironic thing is that this is practically the only time he fetches. (The only other time I can remember offhand is when CB’s dad plays with Snoops one Father’s Day in the 90s… There are probably a few more instances, but I bet you can count them on one hand.)
