I’m of partial German heritage, but I don’t know that much of the German language anyway. (To play along, Giuseppe Verdi plays in Italian, Maurice Ravel plays in French, Pyotr Tchaikovsky plays in Russian, Bedřich Smetana plays in Czech, Joaquín Rodrigo plays in Spanish, Fryderyk/Frédéric Chopin plays in Polish and French … need I say more?)
For those interested, “Sheep may safely graze” is an aria belonging to JS Bach’s “Hunting” Cantata BWV 208, a secular (i.e. not a church) cantata. There are many recordings available, but no one comes close to Gustav Leonhardt and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightment.

“Was spielst du, Schröder?” “Sheep May Graze Safely.” “Kein Wunder, dass ich es nicht erkannt habe.” “Du hast auf Deutsch gespielt.”

That was a Bach handed compliment.

It has been a semi-crazy week. I needed this. Thank you, Sparky.

Nice to know that Schroeder will play pieces from composers other than Beethoven. This one is especially beautiful.
