Sometimes, even spelling in some form of phonetic spelling doesn’t work. I’d gotten into the habit of starting the spelling of my last name with “F as in Frank”; yet, more often than not, the person I’m spelling to STILL hears “S”!
Whoever chose the pronunciation of the letters in the modern alphabet didn’t do such a good job! Too many rhyme, and sound too much alike when you say them!

Bravo (congratulating Charlie Brown and how one says that letter according to the NATO phonetic alphabet).

OK, “B” can sound like “D” or even “E” but not “C”.

Am I the only one who remembers using an old dial phone, when the dial “tone” was a buzz?

And then there’s the presence or absence of a silent letter.
A new father has told a friend the name of his new daughter. The friend asks, “Is that Anne with an e ?” Dad answers: “No, with an A.”

Your teacher didn’t “give” you anything Charlie Brown. She told you that on the test you had earned a “B,” as in Boy. Good work Charlie Brown!
