I had an interesting conversation with a woman I met at a party in college. She grew up in NYC and was attending a small college, and I grew up in a small town in upstate NY and was attending SUNY-Albany (a larger, densely populated college). We both complained that we couldn’t get any privacy.
She said that everybody at her college knew her. At home, she could walk out into the street and and be alone because no one knew her.
I said that I couldn’t get away from people. At home, I could walk into the woods and be by myself. We both came away with new perspectives.
the only thing in all the years that set Charlie and me apart – I don’t like crowds at all, ever, no way, definitely not. I am not anti-social I like most people, tolerate a bunch more, and put up with the rest (if they leave me alone). I just dislike a bunch of people all together being noisy, obnoxious, inconsiderate, and stupid.
I grew up out in the boonies. from the end of school in June until the start of school in September I never saw another child when i was growing up. I lived at the very edge of the school district abutting another school district in my county and another county altogether. Too far out of town to be included in any activities and a dozen years younger than my brothers. I still have trouble socializing because I only saw other people my own age at school during the school day and was an outsider because everyone else saw each other because they lived close enough together to visit. During this pandemic i have actually lost the ability to strike up an in person, or over the phone or texting conversation because I haven’t got the foggiest idea what to say.

Notice how CB is levitating in the 2nd panel. This was the strip that started the whole ‘Charlie is Dead’ thing back in the 60’s.

So, did Shermy get lost? He doesn’t appear to be in the sandbox.
