She’ll make them wish they had: she won’t go home, she’ll stand there and fuss loudly. If another kid comes and the people open the door she’ll push her way in, still fussing loudly.

When I was that age, the doorbell was for important people. Children knocked. Even to go into our own houses.

Tricks or treats. The kids always use the plural form. Is it unique to Schultz’s kids or did they use ti use the plural version. We always said trick or treat.

… which can be remarkably annoying. I’d give her the candy.

The worst I ever did was to walk off the lawn and a little out of sight then spin a bullroarer to bring them bad luck and maybe creep them out a little when they didn’t have candy to give. I wasn’t into real tricks so I guess I was lame on the trick side of trick or treat. But a bullroarer on Halloween night? Folks around the neighborhood weren’t as likely to be familar with that sound so I was figuring they’d be trying to figure out what was going on.
