I always found that the dogs were more relaxed after the walks, okay really tired and sleepy. That was the reason I used to walk our Catahoula Leopard dog, so he would be calm when my late wife and I were at work and he was with the other dogs and cats.
Jim Davis has a Garfield strip somewhat similar to this one. Jon has his car keys out, and Odie excitedly runs all across the floor, up the walls and even on the ceilings a few times, and Jon tells Garfield that all he told Odie is if he wants to go for a car ride. Garfield asks how does Odie move around on the wall like that.
