I was a Romper Room kid. Dresden, Missouri didn’t have a kindergarten when I was a kid. I started the first grade in 1959 in a one room schoolhouse. One teacher for all six elementary grades. I called her Miss Nancy the Romper Room teacher) until I learned that her name was Miss Fox. The facilities were a pair of outhouses behind of the playground in back. I had to walk about a half mile to the school by myself including waiting for it to be safe to cross the busy highway in front of our house.
