must’ve been quite a fall

Metal strap-ons, I used to have a pair. Took them apart and put a 2X4 between them front and back and made a skateboard with them.

I used to love roller skating when I was young.

I had a pair like that, and that’s how I felt about them. No knee and elbow pads in those days; any kid wearing a safety helmet would have been laughed off the block.

Honestly, I’m kind of shocked my brothers and I survived childhood. We had those old metal-wheeled skates, the kind you put on over your sneakers and you also need a skate key to adjust. We would skate down a big hill in our town & we’re quite lucky there wasn’t any traffic to speak of then; otherwise, we’d’ve been done for as there was no way we’d stop in time.

Lucy, take up ice skating. Yes, the ice is hard if you fall, but you’ll sliiiiiiide. No one slides on asphalt.

At least she can roller skate…I never learned.
