Don’t think a B-17 could get off a carrier back then, but what the heck. it’s just a comic.
Since that aircraft has a rounded glass nose, I’ll guess it was meant to be a B-29, which was the aircraft used to drop the atom bombs on Japan. It was much bigger than the B-17, and no, it could not launch from a carrier, either.
