We did those when I was a kid and I hated it. All the cousins were older and I had no one to play with. To keep firecrackers from being thrown at me, I hung out in the living room with the uncles and boring sports on tv. Only tradition I ever forced on my kids was having turkey for Thanksgiving.
Think of the food! I enjoyed it as a kid. What I didn’t enjoy was the 2 hour drive up and 2 hour drive back home. But the food was great and since it was held in a park there were a lot of things to do.
