Skip ahead to the new Luann, Knute. The workbooks (which I think are still very useful) will be gone with the slide rules, individual calculators, protractors, and abacus. Specialists probably can still find some of those useful.
I think in the time period when this was current, not everyone had home computers, and there was no internet (modems were still kind of new). And if schools DID have computers, they were usually the dirt cheap TRS-80s (aka Trash 80).
