I read a book once, of suggestions on how to get rid of telemarketers. One suggestion was to ask them for their number and tell them “I’ll give you a call back during your dinner time.”
Couldn’t wait to try it out.
So, this telemarketer phones, I say the line…she starts rattling off her phone number!!
I said: “Lady, don’t you get it? I DON’T WANT TO TALK TO YOU!”
Caller ID means that I almost never pick up with a telemarketer. If it is a legitimate call from an unknown caller, they’ll leave a message.
If I do pick one up by mistake, I just hang up without saying anything once I realize what kind of call it is. These days it’s probably not even a live person. More likely a recording when you first pick up, and you’d have to stay on the line to speak with someone.
My grandmother will talk to them in German or Serbian. They usually hang up pretty quickly. Her greeting on her answering machine is also in German and that is a good deterrent for telemarketers too.
My wife is more cruel. She will spend a lot of time making friendly, idle chit chat. A telemarketer’s time is valuable.. They need to make so many calls in fixed amount of time. To have a call last a long time without making a sale can be dangerous to them keeping the job.

Great use of the name to intimidate the caller. Problem is he/she probably won’t understand it because it’s in English without an accent.

‘G’ as in Greg is dangerously insane, but also a true hero to the people.

WE bought a whistle to keep by a phone to blow in their ears. Someone must have told them as we haven’t had any calls since then!

Or “G” as in “gnu”, “r” as in “earth”, “e” as in “ewe”, and “g” as in “gnocchi”.
