Andy: Peter, I wish you'd help your father. Peter: I am helping him, Mom. Andy: How? He's outside shoveling two feet of snow! Peter: Exactly. After an hour of backbreaking work in 10-degree weather, what's the man going to be in major need of? A nice, warmed-up sofa cushion with a nice, warmed up TV-remote. Andy: Let's go outside. Peter: Mom, I'm serious- feel the heat on these buttons!

At 16, Lewreader? My mother wouldn’t have been able to get close enough to me to “warm my backside” at that age – besides which, I was bigger than she was, so she had to resort to psychological warfare to motivate me (and believe me, it worked far better than a walloping EVER did!)
As for my father? Since he was prone to physical violence over even minor infractions, it’s just as well that he wasn’t around by the time I was Peter’s age, because I’d have grabbed his belt from out of his hand and warmed HIS backside – I have ZERO tolerance for bullies who beat their children bloody (as my father did) simply because they can!
