Estate sales are often held to raise money for long-term care, or to pay for final expenses. Lila’s purchases would probably be helping with long-term or final costs. Why make somebody feel bad? Also, it keeps it from being sent to a landfill by being sold, so it’s really a win-win situation. Lila’s friend is very ignorant.
We’ve gone to a few estate sales around our home, never bought anything because the prices are crazy high. I remember looking at one item, $5 and on the underside there’s a yard sale tag for 25 cents!
Most of the ones I’ve been to have things that interested the estatee but are not interesting for the kids. They’ve probably gone over what may have sentimental value for them and what is left goes in the sale,the proceeds of which are split up. Yes, I know it’s not always that civilized…..
