There are very few times when I make my kids match. Mostly, they can pick their own clothes if they want, and put them on. We’ve gone out with purple and orange, we’ve gone out with shirts backwards and inside-out. The kids were very proud to do things themselves.
That said, sometimes (like at holidays, for church, etc) we do have formal-clothes rules when things have to mostly match and be appropriate
I dunno, I think the red hat looks fine with the snowsuit. Besides, you probably shouldn’t let children wear white anyway. I won’t even let my husband wear white.
Lynn obviously must have read the children’s book “Red is Best.” I don’t remember the author’ name, but I do remember that she’s Canadian, and the illustrator too. Or did she read Lynn’s strip first? The only thing for sure is that it’s a clear case of Canadian cultural incest.
We have often left the house with my daughter wearing rubber galoshes and a tutu. I don’t care much about what people think. She likes it.
On the other side, I have used Ellie’s trick before. My gal refused to let me put her hair back… she’s got long hair and it would get into everything… until one day, I asked her if she wanted “princess hair” and that’s when she let me start putting her hair in a pony tail with barrettes.
Re. the “silhouette” drawings of yesterday’s strip……
It’s the fault of the person who colored the strip, people! Someone look in their old books of the strips in black and white. I’ll bet you a dollar the the images were all black with no color on the clothes. The colorist colored in the clothes by mistake. The images were supposed to be background silhouettes.
For the love of all that’s holy, Elly, please let your daughter wear the red hat!!!!! It’ll still go with her snow suit just fine. In the whole grand scheme of things, what does it really matter anyhow? Soon enough, she’ll get to the age where she’ll want to color-coordinate her outfits on her own anyway (because that’s just what girls *do*!). Letting her learn independence and her own mind starting now will help her tremendously later on in life.
Pick your battles with your kids. A hat ain’t one of them that matters. Compromise on the little stuff and no compromise on the important stuff. Try to decide if it will really matter or not in 5 years, and then decide the importance level.

Sometimes, you just have to let them win, Elly. If she wants to wear the red hat, let her wear the red hat!

Week before last, Lizzie was “boo”. And Elly, you can keep track of her in the red hat. White is too much like the snow. I vote “red”.
You go, Lizzie. I love it.

I love the expression on Lizzy’s face in the 7th block, Lynn really knows body language and facial expressions and how to capture them.

Hey, purple and orange are the school colors of Clemson University. So what’s wrong with that?
