Same thing just happened to me – I was skiing, and wear glasses inside my ski goggles. I took my goggles off while riding the gondola, and thought, there’s a weird piece of ice inside my goggle?? It turned out it was the lens from my glasses. Could not find the little screw and had to ski back one-eyed. The lodge found me a little piece of wire, so I used that to hold the lens in place and skied the rest of the day until I could get back to my condo where I had the little screwdriver and a replacement screw.
So easy to strip the threads with those tiny screws if yo over tighten them. so the screw doesn’t back out (unloosen), I sometimes put a drop of super glue on the screw head, but not on the threads, in case I have to ever take the screw out. A pin can scrape it & remove it if you need to get a screwdriver into the slot.

So why didn’t Opal take Earl to the optometrist to get a new lens?

Which lens? In comic strips it can be hard to tell.

Why didn’t he just fish it out and pop it back in? Of course, it wouldn’t be funny, but . . .

Hysterical! Sounds like something that would happen to me. Thank you, Brian, for the first guffaw of the day!

Could be worse. I awoke this morning to news that we had a backed-up toilet. Before coffee!

Earl should be on his way to optic repair instead of complaining on a park bench, lol!

I’ve had that happen in a parking lot. Not easy to find when you are half blind.

Everyone should have watchmaker’s screwdrivers – they are extremely useful.
