The one function TV news performs very well is that when there is no news they give it to us with the same emphasis as if there were. The conscience of a newsperson is purely decorative. People everywhere confuse what is in the news with what actually happened.
The point of most news is to frighten you. That way you will pick up the next paper or tune in the next news cycle because you’re too frightened or enraged not to. Not that you can do much about the doom they report. And printed news can be just as bad…yellow journalism goes way way way back
