My ex, SUPER sweet! ALWAYS had a hard time with this. I learned that it’s an almost impossible concept for him and many, to host a problem and NOT try and “fix” it. I learned. We’re not “ex” because of that. ;-)
Now that my kids are older, I’m learning how that feels. Sometimes, I need to just -Keep the MOUTH CLOSED, and keep the ARMS (&heart) OPEN.
Just had to do this for a friend. Listened for 2 hours. Gave no advice or attempts to fix things. Not easy considering she repeats that same mistake over and over and over…part of me really wants to point that out. But I don’t think it would be productive.
I have two friends that we all have problems with depression, low self-worth and not liking to be around people. We can go somewhere and quietly enjoy each other without feeling pressure. Or, as happened recently, one of us may cancel at the last minute and the other two just ask if we can drop something to eat by for them later. A bit of a social life without social pressure. It’s a tiny, wonderful blessing.
Not “try and fix it,” but “try to fix it.” Other than that, finally a guy who knows when to remain silent even though his instinct is to speak. “Silence is golden” is NOT a trite saying.
