Broomie should get a medal for being truthful, not a contempt citation.

I always thought the contempt of court rule, broke the right to a fair trial for every crime, innocent until proven guilty, did the jury agree with the judge?

Maybe Broomie holds the court in contempt!

I’m not sure what you mean. If you’re actually a criminal defendant, you have a right not to testify, or to choose not to answer a specific question, but if you DO testify you’re still obliged to tell the truth. If you’re subpoenaed as a witness in a trial, you can’t invoke the 5th Amendment; absent a valid reason for keeping a privilege (a priest, a doctor, an attorney, sometimes a journalist), you HAVE to answer the questions.

What bugs me in movies and TV shows and such is when a witness is browbeaten into answering simply “Yes” or “No” to a question, when they obviously feel that elaboration is necessary. Sometimes “Yes” or “No” is the truth but it isn’t the WHOLE truth, and by not allowing me to elaborate you’re making me perjure myself.

I once went to vote and had to re-register because I had moved to a new address. They wanted me to swear on the four holy gospels.

    I said, “I can’t do that! I don’t swear on the gospels - I’m not a Christian!”

and they said “We don’t mind!”

    idiots!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I forget how I did it, but I didn’t swear on the gospels, and I did get to vote.
