Nancy screwed up right and proper. She made a pig’s breakfast out of it.

As usual, there’s a lot to like in today’s strip. What I really love, though, is the conceit that Nancy can see the “frown” traced by the parabolic conic section that indicates the trajectory of the thrown ball. [I’m certain that Mort Walker had a simple term for this, but I can’t put my hands on my copy of his cartoon lexicon right now.] I mean, we can “see” it as a line that tells us that the ball traveled in a certain path, so we can see the “frown”. But Nancy shouldn’t be able to see it. Unless, you know, cartoon optics. Then she could see the squiggly lines and flying birdies and popping bubbles that indicate heat, dizziness, inebriation.

So I think this is the third appearance of that male member of the robotics team.

In which Nancy confronts the terrible realization that she may actually need to apologize for something.

Her teammates (including the robot, who if we anthropomorphize, would also be a teammate) are justifiably unhappy with Nancy. I am still absolutely in awe of the teacher and her insight and abilities. Now… will she (the teacher) be able to find a way to make this “all right” in the end and still have Nancy learn a lesson? I am rooting for Olivia to show us the way!

Another interesting end point could be that Nancy learns herself without any additional input the problems of her choices and resolves the…. but then Nancy would not be our Nancy anymore, would she? So, that is a doubtful path.

I feel like we’ve seen the second-panel clubmate before, but I can’t quite recall… Have we? Do we know a name?
