I learned as an adult that when another adult starts yelling at you, they are bullying you. Verbal assault needs to be opposed right then. If someone thinks they can yell at you and get away with it, they will do it again and again and again. As they say, “Nip in in the bud!”
A pesky co-worker kept trying to push me around, and being polite, I mostly ignored her. One time she went overboard and I lost my temper and yelled at her. I was surprised how polite she became afterward.
Most of the same kids I knew in grammar school were the same ones in HS, including one well known incorrigible bully. After HS we never saw him at any of our reunions, and no one could ever find any contact information for him. We all concluded that he was either dead or in prison, and still don’t know. This will be our 60th year, so I assume the former is likely.

You never know where you went wrong if you don’t have a plan.

A few of the kids who bullied me at school apologised afterwards – but it was the 60s.

But you’ll still have “bully bait” on you; each other’s lunch money…
