Popeye didn’t start eating spinach until the cartoons in the 1930s. He originally got his strength in the comic strip from rubbing the head of Bernice, the Whiffle Hen. (Apparently studio execs felt the nutritional value of spinach made sense as the source of his strength. Several years later a recheck of the research revealed a misplaced decimal point in the calculations and spinach only had one-tenth of the iron and other minerals and vitamins it was originally announced to have.)
Chocolate has almost magical powers. With just a Hersey bar you could get Gladys out of the chair and to the laundry room. Making her do the laundry would involve a bag of M&M’s.

Yes Gladys, but Popeye when eating spinach increases his muscles and when you eat chocolate you increase your belly.
