Our family spent a week at the Jersey shore years ago, and the people next door had unsecured wifi. Several of us used it all week. My sister seriously considered leaving a message on the neighbor’s computer desktop warning them, but we decided it was best not to. We didn’t want to get involved in a huge mess.
Our cable co has a wifi network that is accessible to customers. It runs through the wires along our street. We can access it in our house when they are playing games with their wired Internet. When we lose our electricity we can access the wifi with our laptops (and probably our cell phones too, but we haven’t done that),so when bad weather is headed here – again – we plug in all the laptops – new and old – so we will be able to use the wifi. After Hurricane Sandy we used the wifi. Then we figured out if went in our tiny RV (which we did at night for entertainment) we could watch TV with the RV’s antenna, check the Internet all we wanted as we plugged the laptops into the RV electric system and used the wifi. We also recharged the cell phones. We did this for 2 hours on the RV’s battery and then turned on the RV’s generator for an hour – which only used 1/3 gallon of gas to give us a 3rd hour of use and recharge the batteries.
Cable/Internet company insists it is impossible for us to access the wifi in our house or RV, but we do.

I remember warwalking four suburbs around me a few years ago.
I should do it again, and see what’s changed.

Spectrum is in the process of placing hot spots for its customers all over its service areas. There are several even in this small town.

My last two routers forced me to set up a secure network.

Unsecured wifi is a big risk. Having somebody glom onto your wifi and download child porn can ruin your year.

My WiFi is insecure. I have to constantly reassure it that I need it and want it. And that I’m not just using it for my own selfish reasons. ;-)

Someday we will live on Planet WiFi. And my 2G cell phone will still underperform.

When I’m out walking I’m with my wife, the dogs or both. I am not on my phone.

Why the heck does anyone need wifi while out on a walk? Put the stupid thing in your pocket and pay attention!

Increasing the spectrum will only provide more opportunities for hackers to grab your data!

I wonder if there is a letter from the little red-haired girl in that mailbox…
