Our first house (which we will buy when I retire) is going to have a hearth – and one big enough to cook on, so we can grill anytime of the year! (or have picnics as the case may be)
A loaf, some brie, an apple or two, some wine, and Netflix and chill. No fire, we have a wood burning stove. Boils water for tea, mulls cider and wine and is raised up off the ground enough for the cats, all five of them, to get under and get warm. It is so cool to hear them when they get their purring synchronised.

That works only if you have a fireplace.

Looks good to me. If we can have Christmas in July, why not an indoor picnic in February?

One thing my wife and I are 100% in agreement – fireplaces are worst than worthless.

That looks nice, but not sitting on the floor. Too hard to get up when you are their age.

Fireplace, check. Blanket, check. Wife, check. I need nothing else.
