I remember the heyday of the internet comics (30 years ago or so) and of the several dozen webcomics I followed then, only a few remain. I can think of only 2 or 3 of those who actually made a living from their work without a “real job” to put food on the table. And the real strength and secret to longevity of those people was in their writing — they had a good story to tell and did it well, even if the artwork wasn’t stellar.
