We gave up trying to keep the dogs off the couch. Not a problem unless all four are on at once. One 41 lb, one 44lb, one 48 lb and one 63 lb. When that happens, although rare, finding room for me is difficult.
Our dog waits until we have gone upstairs, then leaves his bed and hops into the recliner. As soon as we get up, he hops down and curls up in his own bed. Sometimes the recliner is still rocking when we get to the bottom of the stairs.
This little avatar likes to sleep right in front of the bedroom door. So, every night I pick her up and carry her to the couch because we don’t want to stumble over her if we have to get up in the night. I no sooner get back down the hall when I hear the thump of little paws hitting the floor and in one minute she’s back at the door. Oh well, it’s a routine and we’d both miss it.
All the dogs I’ve had over the years have been allowed to get on what ever couch, bed or chair they wanted to. I’ve spent many an enjoyable evening, reading or watching tv, with a large dog sleeping next to me on the couch.
I guess I never really thought about it like this because we let our dog get up on the sofa and the bed. He loves watching TV curled up between hubby and I.When it’s bedtime he sleeps in our room on his own big dog bed.
When I had kitties they had run of the house and slept on our bed each night.

All for nothing and here I had even practised my sheepish look.

Try keeping a parrot off the furniture. Impossible. They also like to chew on the corners. :P

My dogs are welcome on the couch, and the bed. But Miss Violet can’t just sit on the couch, she has to have a pillow on the couch! Of course I oblige…

If you want to best seat in the house, you are going to have to move the dog.
