Perhaps that’s the key, Wally. As DD8 said, build a life there and contribute to the community. It’s time to realize that every season in life comes to an end and you may need to hang up your “adventuring boots” before you die. You and your family are housed and fed in a stable colony. A stagnant one, maybe, or maybe not. The infrastructure we’ve seen so far indicates it’s well-established and supplied.
We’ll see if Chic’s double-dog-dare results in info about the colony, an exit for our stalwart group, Chic making a name for himself and becoming more a part of the colony’s youth, or….. never can tell with Aaron’s storytelling. Never predictable. :)
That’s the problem with the hero business, it’s so spotty. One day you’re saving a dozen innocent hostages, the next there’s not even so much as a single cat up a tree… Pay’s not so great, but I hear tell some of the bennies are out of this world ;-)
“I mean, being a freedom fighter, a…a force for good, it’s…it’s a wonderful thing. You get to make your own hours, looks good on a resume, but the pay…sucks.” —Al Bester
“Does the job degrade the man? Or is it the other way around?” Alien from the planet Empyrian in the original Outer Limits episode Second Chance. One of my fave episodes with Don Gordon and Simon Oakland as the Empyrian giving select loser earthlings a “second chance.”
What would “settling down and building a life” actually be? How were Wally and crew admitted? In the Endtown world…what possible renewable resources could Eden have? Left with complete freedom, a group of people are likely to descend into anarchy. There will always be people who want more than their share. Order must maintained. Unity had some kind of medieval setup. Endtown has the authoritarian Rats. How are the bureaucrats in Eden coping? Is keeping the population doing make-work hiding something…like resources are limited?

Yeah, yeah, that’s all and good, Wally. But don’t be drooling on the clean laundry.

Now imagine him saying those same things in front of Chic’s class… They may not believe him, but they’ll definitely believe genetics.

Happiness is a warm sock. So, go back to the employment management and give them a sock in the mouth.
