Bollicking is one of my favorite words I’ve picked-up from my British husband! He regrets that of course when he’s on the receiving side of a bollicking.

On my very first teaching job I had a principal who could scare the bejeebers out of a trouble making kid (.and me too!) by shouting and banging his hand on the desk, and then after the big-eyed kid shot out of the office, he’d grin and give you a sneaky wink at his performance. He was actually really good with the kids and staff under normal conditions, joking and kidding around, but he could sure put the fear into you when you needed it. He was actually a great principal.

Dunno who Hilken is supposed to be, but I’ve decided that Rolly is Isaac Asimov.

Maybe Hilken is David Bowie? Is this camp a Space Oddity?

Lottie strikes me as somewhat unrepentant.

I suspect they both thoroughly enjoyed their curfew violation, their subsequent pleas for mercy notwithstanding.

I cannot logically see any part of any living body being “vulgar”. Where do you think testimony came from—the testes aka testicles? Swear on testicles. Humanity is bonkers.

It comes from rural English not sure whether it was north or midlands but it refers to a Bull or Bullock and what actually makes it a Bullock as seen from the plow end. Those who raised beef cattle found them to be a delicacy and referred to them as Bollocks. And then there’s “Cobblers” which is rhyming slang aka Cockney. With word couplings like Trouble and Strife meaning Wife and Cobbler’s Awls meaning Balls. Or that was what I gathered from my Da.
