When I was very young and mastering words and how to use them, I tried to find a good word to tell my mother I appreciated how comfortable and warm I felt at home with her. I told her I thought she was “homely”!
I would be complimented – “You must have been a beautiful baby, cause baby look at you now” is just a hint of things to come. It’s not like the kid is looking at an old picture and saying essentially the same words – except stated as ‘you used to be pretty when you were young’.
