And when you finish it what will you do with what you learned?

Law enforcement likes to stake out my class’ reunions. There are a few people they’ve been looking for, for a long time.

With mine it’s not War & Peace, it’s more like a TV show… Truth or Consequences.

As for the learning part, forget it. Most of the faculty were too busy pitching Gus Hall as their presidential candidate of choice.

even before he finishes it, he will have learned ,(and apparently the nazis didn’t read it) to never NEVER get involved in a land war in Asia, in winter.

    never

Man, that’s persistence. I’ve learned that if I can’t finish a book in a week, a month at the very outside, I probably never will — and I won’t have missed anything anyway.

BTW, I’ve always been amazed that Hitler learned nothing from Napoleon, who invaded Russia with 400,000 troops and struggled out again with only 10,000…and nothing to show for it. Maybe Hitler thought: well, Napoleon was French, and I just made the French fold up like a lawn chair, so I must be smarter than them….

Libraries stock multiple copies of War and peace, so you can return your copy on time and check out another to start reading where you left off.

Excuse me, Roto13: pluggers may be the last ones who can read. They were raised and educated in a system that actually required you to be able to read, understand, and write coherently…and in more than 140 characters at a time.

Have you seen quiz shows like “Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?”? Some of those contestants can’t even answer first grade questions sometimes! Put in perspective, things that 6-year-olds are supposed to know!!! It’s absolutely scary what the schools are apparently not teaching in their classes anymore! I’ve also read that more and more schools aren’t really bothering to teach cursive writing anymore because, hey! Who writes anything these days?!? All anyone seems to be doing anymore is typing everything thanks to all the electronic gadgets we have now so that’s what the teachers are focusing on in their classes instead.

I’m soooooo happy to say that this particular plugger not only can read but absolutely loves to read and I’m proud of it too!!!!!

aircraft-engineer, most of Russia is in Asia, even if their capital city is not.

SCAATY_423, why are you attributing the quality of reason to Adolph Hitler? The guys who were really running the show were probably sane, but Hitler was not.

Actually, what I thought I was attributing to Hitler was arrogance and stupidity…and faulty logic. Apologies for any other interpretation.

GretchensMom: Keep in mind how long it’s been for some of those contestants. Heck, when was the last time you had to know what a participle or a predicate was? How about being able to name the numerator and the denominator?

They’re not stupid, ignorant or uneducated; they just haven’t been little kids for a few decades.
