And yet he can still afford to buy cigarettes. I can think of a few words other than "pathetic ".

Did Mike shave during that meeting? he had stubble yesterday.

There was a time at Christmas when Mike received lots of gifts and a boy he knew, and was talking on the phone with, was thrilled to get a #2 pencil.

There are a lot worse things to give a child for Christmas than a book. I hope it was one her son liked.
