This is why I love C&H. Most comic strips focus entirely on being funny. C&H is funny too…but it’s not afraid to be sweet and wholesome when it wants to as well.
I don’t know if the long term members who regularly visit C&H remember me because I only commented once in probably 3 years. But I want to take the opportunity to thank C&H for this one strip which according to me is probably the 2nd best strip ever produced. I mean I know it’s wrong to rank these legendary strips like this but this one is leagues ahead.
I used to fear the dark because of not only the dread I feared of death but also the loneliness feeling it gave. I didn’t have best friends to accompany me through that time but had only these strips of joy and they probably provided incentive to move ahead of those fears. Sure, people helped every now and then but I have to give credit to these pieces of art. There’s no throwaway gag in the beginning like there usually is. There’s just a truth given by Calvin. And his truth would have overtaken him had it not been for his friend. I mean, Hobbes is not real anywhere but in Calvin’s mind (and the minds of C&H fans!) so in a way Calvin is doing this all on his own but he does manage to distract himself and after that there is no more worry on Calvin’s face, there’s only happiness and sleepiness and a legendary quote. “THINGS ARE NEVER QUITE ASSCARY WHEN YOUVE GOT A BEST FRIEND”This is by far one of the most true things I’ve come across in life. Yes, Calvin, things are never quite ever the same when you’ve a best friend. For those wondering these are my all time favorites. 1. Calvin: DAD, HOW DO SOLDIERS KILLING EACH OTHER SOLVE THE WORLDS PROBLEMS? Calvin: I THINK GROWN-UPS JUST ACT LIKE THEY KNOW WHAT THEY’RE DOING. this strip taught me so much I can only state it and reserve it seriously for another day. ( https://www.google.com/search?q=I+THINK+GROWN-UPS+JUST+ACT+LIKE+THEY+KNOW+WHAT+THEY%27RE+DOING&prmd=ivsn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjKkNvU9eDhAhWJbisKHZNQCSIQ_AU )Could anybody look for the gocomics link?2. The above one. 3. The first ever C&H strip. 4. The last ever C&H strip.
Where I live, In Reykjavík, Iceland, it will get dark (civil twilight) at 10:12 PM tonight, and it will remain dark only until 5:25 AM tomorrow morning. From May 19 to August 15 it won’t get dark at all. Of course, there is a down side. On the winter solstice it’s dark from about 3:20 PM to 11:15 AM.
The dark is where we can put a mirror to our own actions and minds activities. Like looking at a window to the dark night and seeing only our own reflections. We are never so unattractive as when we see only our own reflection.
Which is why I never understood why the big people got to sleep with someone, but the little people were expected to sleep all alone in their beds. Because we get more scared as we get older? Weird.
Awwwwwwwwwww! This is so sweet and gutsy at the same time to do this in a comic, and just skip any punchline. And the middle bottom panel in a different style is just brilliant too. What an artist. <3 <3 <3

Ever imagine a cartoon character sleeping right beside you? It actually helps.

If your best friend is a tiger who will defend you, you’re a lot safer than most of us.

The third panel is a good explanation, not original of course, of why we have so many nightmares as kids.

And when your best friend is a ferocious tiger, that kinda helps, too. Sweet dreams, Calvin!

This is the one Watterson wrote when his beloved cat died. It was kind of a last goodbye.

I have no problems sleeping. And all I have is a pillow. Although, I guess that’s all Hobbes is, technically.

You’ve got a friend in me
When the road looks rough ahead
And you’re miles and miles from your nice warm bed
You just remember what your old pal said
Boy you’ve got a friend in me
Yeah you’ve got a friend in me
