Most cats lose interest in mirrors at about 4 months of age. The exception for me was a big brown tabby I had who climbed onto a bookcase and tried to launch himself through some decorative mirror panels at the ripe old age of 8 months. Bit slow on the uptake, that one.
We had a kitten once who saw her reflection in a shiny flask and kept trying to get around or under it to find the kitten on the other side. She finally knocked the flask off the shelf and then ran for her life because of the clatter.
Many years later, she used the bathroom mirror to play peek-a-boo with people getting out of the shower. I’m serious, you would stick your head out so she could see your reflection and say “Boo!” Then withdraw. She would meow. You appear and say boo, retreat. She meowed. She would do this again and again. Or until you got cold and wanted to dry off.
I’ve had people try to convince me that cats can’t see reflections. Where they got that idea, I don’t know…
I had a golden tabby who would sit on the bathroom counter while I was getting ready, look at herself in the mirror & I swear would turn her head as if looking at herself for her best side. I would make believe I was putting a little blush on her cheeks & she would purrrr. She was never a diva in other ways. She lived to almost 19 until evil cancer got her. I miss her dearly & felt honored that she picked me when she was 4 to rescue her. {{{{RIP dear Ms Scoots}}}}
