When the Middle Kid discovered I was getting Social Security for her and her older sister (via the Late and Unlamented) she insisted I give her her “fair share”. This was back in the mid-70s, and I gave each of the three girls $30 a month, which was a goodly chunk of money for a 13 year old. BUT – I wasn’t going to buy her a pair of shoestrings. She wanted new shoes? Save your allowance. A new skirt? Save your allowance.
Prior to this arrangement, she could only put her little buns into Gloria Vanderbilt jeans, and heaven forbid they were on sale. Now that she was spending her money instead on Mama’s, she could actually wear no-name brands, and buy them marked down.

Do your taxes?
You speaking the English?

Wow! Tony’s question today is…
“Do your taxes?”
Gosh… sure… I guess.
That is just so darn nice of you, Tony.
Thanks very much for offering!
I’ll be in touch soon with all the figures, OK?
Meanwhile… sure, Elliott.
An extra 4 bucks a week…. and then, besides what wldhrsy said, you can buy your own electronics and stuff.
